Botanical Gardens Trip

We went to the Missouri Botanical Gardens on Wednesday morning with Amy and Kaitlynn. You can read her blog post about it here. It wasn’t so hot, but it was really muggy. I should have pulled my hair back. That’s all I kept thinking. Bailey was a little crabby because of her bottom right molar coming in. It looks so painful, just poking about halfway through her gums. The whole tooth isn’t even through, just like two of the points on it. I don’t envy her at all with this teething business.

Anyway. Aside from the crabbiness, Bailey seemed to have a good time. She played on some of the sculptures like last time, and she even posed for a picture and I managed to get a good one!

Bailey also wandered around a lot and put her snacks down on the ground to go play. Then, she would walk back over and pick up her snack out of the dirt and try to eat it again. She also got really sweaty and sticky. But here are a few shots of her playing and sharing snacks with Kaitlynn.

The last thing we did there was put the girls in an empty fountain to play. That sounds bad, but it worked out really well. There is a new area and they hadn’t filled the fountain yet. Bailey and Kaitlynn were both kind of wandering off and just being generally in weird moods. So we put them inside this fountain and they ran around and played in there for a bit. It was nice not to have to chase them. Bailey seemed to enjoy being in there, too.

A day at the Botanical Gardens can really wear you out!

Sometimes I think treadmills are a good idea, but if I could just motivate myself to go walk places like BG or the zoo I would probably enjoy it a lot more, and so would Bailey. By the way, I lost 3.8 pounds this week! Finally making progress.

Crabby Tooth Girl Pics and Other Randomness

Now that I say Bailey’s crabby teething spell is over, she is having a random crabby day today. Hopefully once she wakes up from her morning nap, she will be in a better mood. Not to mention that I just started my period (which I am sure you all want to know, but that means I’m not pregnant!) and I am crampy and feel blah. Drinking a Diet Coke helped the situation a little bit, as did a flour tortilla rolled up with butter and sugar and cinnamon in it. If you haven’t tried it, you should. It sounds nasty but it’s so, so good.

By the way, if we got pregnant this month, our kids would officially be two years apart. Not that we have any plans for that, but we always said we would NOT want them any closer than two years. I know people do it, but I also know my child and I know myself. And being pregnant again doesn’t sound at all appealing to me yet. I’m sure that someday it will sound fun and exciting and I really will want a new baby. For now, Bailey is enough. We want more than one child eventually, but not now. So stop speculating on when I am going to get pregnant, those of you who have been asking since Bailey turned one!

Here are some pics I took the other day while Bailey was being Crabby Tooth Girl. Doesn’t she just look pitiful?

I am also curious if anyone knows anything about authorize.net or other similar services. They set you up so that you can take credit cards as a merchant. I was wondering if I could use something like that instead of Paypal, when people buy stuff from me online like greeting cards or when I do calligraphy.

It seems like the teething is over

For now, anyway. Bailey is back to her usual cheerful self. Thank goodness, because I was about at the end of my rope.

And I am looking forward to the weekend. We are going to a carnival, a birthday barbecue, and I am having dinner with a friend. So it should be fun and hopefully relaxing. Jonathon tends to freak out if he thinks we have too much planned.

Also I have mosquito bites all over my legs today. Which is odd because we weren’t outside last night. Maybe a delayed reaction from playing outside with the neighbors on Tuesday night.

My house is clean too except for my office. That darn office.

Not so much

Having issues posting pics. I was going to share some cute ones from a playdate last week. I guess I’ll do that later.

Bailey is teething again and crabby and fever-y. I actually took her to the doctor this morning. They suckered me into it, to check her ears, even though I knew she was fine. Darn $20 copay :( I should have just listened to my gut and not gone, but then I would have felt guilty if there was something wrong and I didn’t go- it’s just so hard to know what it is when they can’t tell you where it hurts. After the doctor we had grilled cheese sandwiches at my mom’s house and then the Tylenol started wearing off and her temp started going up again so we headed home. We weren’t even two streets away from my mom’s house (in her neighborhood, not like big streets) and Bailey was already asleep. After having a 2 1/2 hour nap this morning. Now she has been sleeping in her room for about an hour so we’ll see how long this lasts.

I think Jonathon is working late tonight so hopefully she’s not too crabby. We might get the sprinkler out and play outside if she’s in a decent mood when she gets up.

Bailey has gotten like a million teeth in the past week. Last weekend was teething hell. Early this week, it ended and she has a whole mouthful of teeth to show for it. All the way across the top, bottom molars, and another bottom side one on its way!

Forgot to post this sooner- Bailey’s third tooth showed up on Monday. Well, it might have actually broken through before then, but I noticed it on Monday. Here’s the weird thing: She has her two bottom middle teeth… so the next one should be top middle, right? Nope, it’s the one NEXT to the top middle, on the right. So my kid is going to look like a jack-o-lantern when it comes all the way in.

At least that explains the repeated biting during nursing and early morning wakings. Again. It is getting easier to predict when she’s cutting a tooth. As of sometime Sunday, she was back to herself so I figured it must be breaking through.

Finally, a tooth picture

My friend Sarah was over today and she’s a great photographer. She got a nice shot where you can actually see Bailey’s tooth. For some reason, Bailey is crazy about not letting us see or touch her tooth. She also has a second tooth that is about to break through. I can see it under her gums (I thought at first that it was through, But I can’t feel anything). Anyway, here is her first tooth picture.

She took a lot more pictures of Bailey, so I am just going to share some of them. I need to have her come do our family picture one of these days at our house. If she still wants to, that is. :)

These last few were taken when Sarah and Andrew first got here. Bailey had just gotten up from her morning nap and I was in the process of changing her out of her pajamas.

The babies seemed to enjoy playing with/near each other more today than they have in the past. Sarah and I agreed to try to do weekly playdates with each other. If anyone else is interested, let me know!

Bailey has a tooth!

Following three days of off and on crabbiness, snotty nose, and weird poops. I don’t care what the doctors say about that not being connected to teething.

Not my day today

Bailey woke up about a gazillion times during the night last night. I think it’s her teeth… but of course I’ve been saying that for a long time now so maybe she’s just being a PITA. Who knows, she just wants to lay on my lap and smile at me at about 4:30 a.m. and NO, she won’t cry herself back to sleep if I just leave her there. If I get up with her, snuggle her, and maybe nurse her for a minute or two then she goes right back down. But it makes for being very tired in the morning. Plus, she woke up way earlier than usual today. Being the bad mommy that I am, I put her in her bouncy seat, turned on a BE video, and went back to bed for another half hour or so.

Then, here’s the kicker. On the way to the gym, I got a ticket. I got pulled over for not making a “complete stop” at a stop sign that didn’t even exist not too long ago. But that’s not what the ticket was for- it was for failure to show proof of insurance. Can I help it that my new insurance card came like the week I gave birth? Was that really supposed to be at the top of my list of things to do. Let’s see… Feed baby, sleep, feed baby, oh yeah, put new insurance card in wallet. Nope.

The ticket is only $24 as long as I go to the Ballwin Po Station and show them my insurance card. Jerks.

I also need to do some Christmas shopping- I HAVE TO GET STARTED! Thinking about getting grandpa Ingersoll Rand air tools. He is impossible. I mean MY grandpa, not Bailey’s. I just feel frazzled and busy and stressed. And of course we don’t exactly have tons of extra money for Christmas gifts this year- we usually spend too much anyway- but that makes me sad :(

It’s going to get better, right?

Updates- Five Months plus some

Filed Under Five Months, Food, Teething | 3 Comments

Trying to think what is new here…. mainly the food thing. Bailey has been doing rice cereal. She liked it a lot at first but now she isn’t a huge fan. She has also tried green beans (yay), squash (used to like it but now- ick), carrots (loves them) and applesauce (okay). She definitely has her likes and dislikes. She has also been playing with biter biscuits and seems to really enjoy those. She doesn’t really get anything off of them but I think it’s soothing for her gums. Yeah, because she’s definitely teething. I can feel lumps now under her gums.

She is also doing the raspberries a lot. She loves to spit and make noises with her mouth. Her babbling mostly consists of a mix of noises. She doesn’t seem to really “practice” any particular noise but just throws them all together into her own baby sentences. Then she looks at me, smiles, and waits for an answer. She is quite the conversationalist.

Also, she can sit up on her own for limited amounts of time. If she gets excited or reaches too far for something, she tips over.

Five Months Old

You turned five months old yesterday. It’s hard to imagine you as the little newborn I brought home from the hospital just five short months ago. Where is the time going?

This was a month of lots of accomplishments! You started rice cereal on August 21st and liked it from the beginning. After one messy feeding, you started swallowing it and opening your mouth for more. When you get excited about your food, you wave your arms. In fact, being excited in general makes you wave your arms. If you are laying on your back when this happens, you pound your hands against your tummy.

You just started vegetables on September 11th. Your first vegetable was green beans. You loved them- unless they were cold from being in the fridge! Then you made funny faces but still ate them anyway. Today we tried squash for the first time and that was a hit. If we are eating and you don’t have food, you’re not very happy. Especially if we are using spoons. Funny girl :) You just get solids once a day, though, and you have tried teething biscuit thingies twice.

You are still nursing A LOT and you are down to usually just four ounces of formula a day- at bedtime. You go to sleep around 8 and wake up about six or seven hours later for a snack and a cuddle, then again around 7-8 a.m. and then you get up for the day around 10. Although I would eventually like to cut out one of those feedings, I can’t complain. And that would just make you more grown up anyway :(

You are in the church nursery on Tuesday mornings for childcare during Women’s Bible Study. Last week was the first week and you did great. Mommy loves having another day to dress you up, too.

You are very talkative. Your babbling has progressed into chatter, and you make MMM and ba ba ba sounds now. Sometimes it also sounds like “Glooble ba mmmmm pfffft” and other random mixes of noises. You like to grab your feet, and just yesterday you started putting them in your mouth. During the night when you woke up, the feet of your pajamas were soaked because you had sucked on them. Your feet were freezing!

You continue to enjoy Baby Einstein videos. You just started watching Baby’s First Moves and you think it’s pretty exciting. Your favorite toy is still your LaMaze butterfly. We got links to attach it to your carseat. Also, you have used your stroller without the carseat in it a few times now. And we even tried the umbrella stroller one day in a pinch. You didn’t seem to mind.

I think last month you were already rolling both directions. You spin yourself around now too, when you’re on your back. Your feet and legs end up sticking out of your crib and getting stuck. You seem to be teething now, based on your intense need to bite down on my boobies and chew on everything in sight. I can feel little bumps on your gums, but I can’t see anything yet. You don’t really like to let me look in your mouth, either!

Anyway, that’s probably enough for one month. Stop growing up so fast! I love you so much. You are so much fun, and you are the sunshine in my day and you make me so happy. I always tell you, you are my little love.

Not Very Restful

Last night Bailey was really congested, and I think her teeth are still bugging her. Put her to bed at 7:30, and she was up at:

9
10:30
12:45
3:30
6:15
7:30

She didn’t want to eat at all of these times, sometimes she just wanted a hug or a dry diaper. She is never like this so I knew she wasn’t feeling like herself.

At 7:30 I decided to put her in front of a Baby E video and get myself ready for the day, since I have to be somewhere at 9:30. Then I have lunch plans, and tonight I have book club. Of course, the night before a super busy day, I get no sleep :(
