A Snowy Day

Filed Under Firsts, Outside, Play, Two and a half years old | Leave a Comment

I think there is a book called A Snowy Day or something like that… a board book. We read it at Bailey’s “school” a few weeks ago. We had our first snowy day of the year while Jonathon was off work for the holidays. Last year Bailey got to play in the snow just a little bit but this is the first year she’s had boots and snowpants.

She loved putting her snow clothes on and getting ready to go outside. She LOVES her princess boots. In fact she keeps wanting to wear them everywhere we go.

She enjoyed her first ride in her new sled. She wanted to pull Daddy in the sled too but didn’t understand why it wasn’t going to work out.

I think she really liked playing in the snow. It was just so ridiculously cold and, well, my coat does not close in front anymore!

Works for me Wednesday- Bubble Baths

Filed Under Play, Toys, Two and a half years old, Works For Me Wednesday | 2 Comments

Bailey LOVES to take bubble baths now. I use the Avon Kids Bubble Bath because it’s perfume/dye free. She only gets to do them for a special treat, like maybe once a week. But if I sit on the bathroom floor next to the tub, I can read magazines or whatever for at last a half hour while she plays. I just have to add warm water again about halfway through. She has a Dora castle that she loves, and it suctions to the side of the tub.

She also loves to make a “beard” on her face with the bubbles. And swim in the water, and pretend to lose toys under the bubbles and search for them. She’s really turning into a kid…

Wordless Wednesday- Roni Tub Revisited

Filed Under Play, Two Years Old, Wordless Wednesday | 1 Comment

We got out the Roni Tub yesterday for the first time in a few months. She had even more fun now that she understands more about scooping, pouring, etc. But- this is supposed to be wordless…

Rough Day at the Park

Filed Under Outings, Play, Two Years Old | 4 Comments

We went to the park last week with our Moms and Tots group from church. The morning started out great. Bailey actually cooperated and got ready without a hassle- which is rare- can I get an Amen, moms of two year olds? She was rewarded with a powdered sugar donut. Yep, I’m totally NOT above bribery.

We got to go down the hill (I think it was more like I chased Bailey down the hill when she took off running) to see the pond. We had fun walking across the bridge and exploring. It didn’t even faze her that there was a huge pond. It scares me how fearless she is and how she is so impulsive. It was HOT, but she didn’t seem to care.
dsc01923

We saw this duck up close and she thought that was pretty cool.
dsc01927

Then on the way back up the hill, one of those big furry bumblebees got in my flip flop and stung the bottom of my foot- it was still hanging on and I had to flick it off and then oh did it hurt. Plus I had to limp all the way up the hill on my tip toes of that foot while carrying Bailey who was having a fit. But there were a lot of dandelions so I didn’t want her to get stung too! Bad mommy decisions.

When we got up to the top she had some snacks and then went back to play on the playground while I poked at my foot- which felt like it was on fire. I haven’t been stung since I was like 8 years old and I don’t recommend it. But Bailey loves Goldfish crackers and she seemed oblivious to my pain. I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it and scare her but she didn’t notice anyway.

Then right before we left this kid pushed her (not trying to push her off, just pushed her out of the way and turns out he was deaf and couldn’t talk to her anyway) but she went flying off one of those gaps where you can slide down a pole. KWIM? It was about the height of my head so over five feet- I just saw her go flying to the ground and then laying there in a heap screaming. At least she was screaming but I was thinking for sure broken bones! She bit her tongue and it was pretty bloody and she had a little bump/scrape on her chin but I think that’s it!

For a day or two she kept saying “Boy push you!” and “Beelay fall boom park!” POor girl, there was nothing I could have done but it was so awful to watch.

We Stayed Home Today

Filed Under Play, Twenty-three Months | 3 Comments

Normally I *hate* staying home all day with Bailey. We both like to get out and do stuff… but we both slept a little later than usual (8:30) and had a lazy morning. I put in my Avon order and we played in the living room. I spent a while on the phone with my district manager. I got the laundry put away. But mostly we just played with blocks and Little People. She is really into pretending and it is so fun to watch. I also think it’s easier to play with her for long periods of time now because she talks more constantly so at least we’re not just sitting in silence!

Tomorrow, though, we have plans. We work at church on Tuesday mornings. As much as I love hanging out with Bailey, we can’t just chill at home all the time. Later this week we are also going to get her TWO YEAR pictures taken. Can you believe it? I can’t. The in-laws are coming in town this weekend and we are celebrating Easter as well as doing her family birthday party on Easter Monday. I am going to attempt to make an Elmo cake. Which I may or may not post pictures of!

But here is something that I will post pictures of. Bailey playing dress-up with her blankie. She tells me that it’s a coat. This started back when her class at church did the story of Joseph and the coat of many colors. It’s one of her favorite things to do now- and in this picture there is also the nice addition of Jonathon’s black shoes. We might need to get her some real dress-up clothes at some point…

I hate snow, I really do

Filed Under Play, Sick, Sleep, Twenty-One Months | 1 Comment

Seriously, I hate being stuck at home because of snow. But I also hate driving in snow/ice. I don’t know which is worse. So I am sitting here being grouchy about it. Jonathon is going to be home from work tomorrow so at least I will have company. I need to sit and list some things on eBay too so hopefully he will give me some free time.

In the meantime, I will share some pictures of my child. She’s currently obsessed with playing in the bathroom. I wish she would use that obsession to learn how to go potty, but that’s not the case. Just playing, playing, playing.

Oh and a little follow up on B’s cough- it got really bad on Saturday night and I brought her in to sleep with us. She was coughing in her sleep but it was keeping me awake, so I thought it might help if she could sleep with her head propped up against me. She did much better and it was kind of nice and snuggly to have her in bed with us. She even put her arm around my neck for a while. Apparently she also kicked Jonathon a lot because somehow she ended up with her feet by his face. I asked if we could have her sleep with us again the next night. He said that she could sleep in bed with me but that he would sleep downstairs. So, she is back in her own bed. We didn’t go to church on Sunday morning. I was so worn out from a long day Saturday and then being up off and on with her during the night.

My friend Jen (who is a chiropractor) adjusted us both on Sunday night. Bailey has coughed ONCE since then. Could it be possible that getting adjusted is like the new miracle drug? We have been Benadryl free, coughing free since then.

Bailey Loves Sorting

Filed Under Nineteen Months, Play | 3 Comments

The other day Bailey was bored so I got out a muffin tin and some different types of pasta and rice. I let her sort and dump to her heart’s content. Once again, something easy and inexpensive but she had a lot of fun! I took these pictures before our camera went to never never land.

Coloring Junkie

Filed Under Nineteen Months, Play | 4 Comments

Apparently, coloring is the most fun thing EVER. I love it, but not so much with the 8-pack of jumbo washable crayons. I mean, there just isn’t the right shade for Zoe or Telly. (Pronounced by Bailey as “Szjooo-eh” and “Teh-leh.”)

My kid, on the other hand, could color for hours. She hasn’t even gotten any toys out since Sunday. Our living room is actually really clean now. I’m not kidding. It’s all coloring, all the time. She doesn’t want to stop to eat. She wakes up and asks, “Color? More color?” On Tuesday morning she was throwing a fit- she didn’t want to go to her class in the church nursery because she wanted to stay home and color. I had to convince her that her teacher would let her color in class. (Thank you, Julie, for having patience with my girl!)

At first she was just using scrap paper that we had laying around.

She colors in her jammies…

And she colors at her new table! Thank you to our wonderful neighbors Will and Jeannette. They gave Bailey this table and we had it put away for a while until she could figure out how to sit on it and not break her neck. It is her favorite place to color. And doesn’t she look grown up? *it’s happening too fast*

We have also noticed her favorite pages to color are the ones that either Mommy or Daddy colored on. She will find those pages and color over and over on them.

Exploring another park with Grandpa

Filed Under Fifteen Months, Grandparents, Outings, Play | 2 Comments

These are from last week at the park with my dad. Our camera is currently being repaired or replaced, so I will have to entertain you with some older pictures in the meantime. Hope you like them anyway. LOL… if you’re local and you want to know what park this is, leave me a comment and I’ll get back to you. It’s one of our favorites, and it’s NOT the Fountain Park.

Bailey HATES swings. I keep trying them every so often, hoping that she will change her mind. She is a pretty brave kid with most things. But I don’t blame her with the anti-swing thing. I liked them as a kid and now it makes me queasy to even watch other people swinging.

Walking through the tunnel- one of her current favorite things to do at any park.

Around the House

Filed Under Fifteen Months, Hair, Play, Toys | 1 Comment

For the last few weeks it has been dreadfully hot, up until just this past weekend. We have stayed home a lot of days, instead of just finding something to do. Gas is expensive, it’s sooo sweaty outside, and I have just felt like hanging out at home. We have played in the pool/sprinkler a bit, but other than that we’ve just been in the house.

Bailey has gotten a few new toys, including some wooden puzzles from Jonathon’s parents, a new Elmo video and stuffed Elmo from Mommy, and some new books. I have also been making more of an effort to rotate her toys so that she doesn’t get tired of the same ones. Her absolute favorite thing is her Little People Zoo. She doesn’t really care about the zoo part, but she loves the animals. Her new thing is lining them up on the couch or the coffee table. I have also noticed that sometimes she will get only the birds out (there are like six different kinds of birds in the set). For some reason, she really likes birds. Maybe because my parents make a big deal out of looking at the birds at the feeders on their deck.

Here she is lining up her animals. Yes, I know my coffee table needs to be cleaned. Glass top tables are constantly gross, especially with kids around. Of course that’s what we bought, before having a kid!

Whining at Mommy… this happens more than it used to. But my reason for including this picture- you can see her “haircut” because her bangs are actually laying nicely in this shot. I can’t believe this was just a month ago and already they are down to her eyebrows again. I think her hair grows fast like mine!

Playing with her baby and her Fuzzy bear. She loves to carry them around and hug them and pat their backs.

This is about as messy as she gets when she eats… weird, I know. Only maybe three times that I can think of has she gotten messier than this or gotten food in her hair.

Let me out of here, Mom! I’m sick of being at home!

Sprinkle Dinkle

Filed Under Fifteen Months, Play, Toys | 5 Comments

I think I mentioned that a while back, Jonathon bought a Dora sprinkler for Bailey. While very cute, it’s just not a functional kid sprinkler. I could tell that when I saw it, but he was so proud of his purchase. It’s inflatable and fills with water, and then water sprays out of all the holes. But I decided that we needed to get some more use out of it, so last night after dinner we got the sprinkler out to play in the yard.

Here’s Bailey checking out her Dora sprinkler.

We noticed that the water wasn’t coming up very high out of the sprinkler as it had in the past. Upon further inspection, Jonathon found a split on one of the seams. Of course it is from stupid Target and we will have quite the run around trying to return it, just like I wrote about here. That is so frustrating. I’m going to have to start searching for that receipt.

We ended up getting out the regular sprinkler for Bailey, and she was just as happy with that. Proof that kids don’t need cute sprinklers that don’t end up working. I have lots of pictures from last night but there were just so many that I felt like really captured her personality and her silliness, so here you go!

This is what she does when we tell her to smile…

Snacktime (which seems like about every half hour all day long!)

Our neighbor Will came over and confessed that he and his wife had been watching Bailey play out their window for a while. He is such a nice guy and Bailey just loves him! Plus, he helps us out with all kinds of house/yard/car stuff and has taught Jonathon a lot.
