2 Month Checkup

11 lbs 2 oz
22 in long
bigger head but I forget what
4 shots, one oral vaccine
Updated: Bailey is now in like the 80th percentile for weight and 40th for height, I think… The doctor said she was doing well and probably had a big weight gain during this second month since she wasn’t gaining a whole lot during the first month.
She is meeting all of her little milestone/expectation thingies such as picking her head up enough when on her stomach, cooing, eye contact, etc. Except- the doctor asked if she was smiling a lot and we said still only once in a while- like maybe two or three times a day but she has to be in a good mood or someone has to be particularly interesting. She said she would “like to see her smiling more within the next 2.5 weeks” so whatever. I guess our kid is a slow smiler. Oh well.
She was fine for the first three shots and then screamed like crazy during the last one. I was surprised she held out that long even. She sucked on my finger for a few minutes and calmed down fairly quickly. Was crabby a little bit later in the day and had two doses of Tylenol. Then she slept last night from 11 pm until when I woke her up this morning at 8:40 because we had to go somewhere. She slept more than usual today, too, but her personality seems to be back to normal.
No more bassinet… my baby’s growing up!
Filed Under One Month, Sleep | 1 Comment
The other day Jonathon wheeled her bassinet downstairs and she’s all done with it now… she probably would have fit in it for a while still, but it was kind of in the way of her crib… the original plan was for her to sleep in the bassinet in our room, but she was just too noisy so that only lasted the first night we were home from the hospital.
She sleeps so well in her crib now. She still has to be swaddled to sleep or her arms will wake her up. We have two swaddle wraps now- the original one which is fleece, and now a lighter one for the summer made by Boppy.

On Saturday night Bailey went to bed at 10:30-10:45 and didn’t wake up until 6:15 a.m.
Last night she went to bed at 11:45 or so and got up at 8 this morning.
She is eight weeks old today.

My friend Amanda got married yesterday at The Butterfly House! It was a very pretty wedding, and the weather turned out to be really nice for an outdoor wedding. My parents watched Bailey during the ceremony, but then we brought her to the reception with us because they had a different wedding to go to in the evening.
On Friday I made Bailey and I matching bracelets to wear. Hers is just a smaller version of mine, with smaller beads. I might have to make us some more matching stuff!
All dressed up and ready to go!
Amanda seated us at the same table as her parents and some other family members, so it was really nice to be able to visit with them during dinner. Bailey was wide awake most of the time, but she managed to behave herself. I just had to eat my meal in about ten different stages.
Me with Amanda- this is the only picture I have of her because I had a brain lapse and forgot to put the memory card in the camera before the ceremony- which was at the Butterfly House so that was disappointing- but then we had time in between so we picked Bailey up from my parents house and got the memory card before the reception.

Playtime
Filed Under One Month, Outings, Play | 1 Comment
We went out with our playgroup on Wednesday to the Science Center. (This is the group I used to be in with Alison). Bailey slept the first half of the time we were there, and then she woke up and ate and then rode around in her sling for a while. She loved having so much to look around at! After that we went to lunch with Cara and I ate Mexican… and guess what happened AGAIN! Yes, big spit up. We happened to be at Jonathon’s work visiting him and I was holding her, and it shot out and went all down the front of him. So he smelled really good for the rest of the day. And I didn’t think the Mexican was spicy this time but that’s the last time I’ll try that, spicy or not Bailey DOES NOT like Mexican food!
We both like to play with her toes and sing the Wake Up Toes song. She has started smiling lately when we do this. Her smiles are becoming a little more frequent and today she even laughed a little bit at nothing in particular.
Lots of fun on the Baby Einstein mat!
Bailey does really well with tummy time. Within the last few days she has been able to pick her head up higher. She can also pick it up and turn it the other direction and lay it back down. She doesn’t really seem to mind being on her tummy as long as she has some company.
She likes her bouncy seat too. She will stay in it long enough for me to shower and get about halfway ready in the morning, if she’s in the bathroom with me. She seems to notice the lights and music a little more now if I turn them on… but if she’s in a room with a tv or window she’d much rather look at those. It’s nice to have somewhere to sit her other than the swing, though.
Sleep Habits
Filed Under One Month, Sleep | 1 Comment
Last night I put Bailey down at 12:30 (well Jonathon got home late so she had to stay up to see him) and she slept until 7:30 this morning before waking up to be fed! Normally she goes anywhere from about 3.5/4 hours to about 6 hours, so this was great. She has only gone 7 hours one other time. She is usually a good sleeper, though. From the beginning we have been putting her in bed while she is still awake, so she has learned to go to sleep on her own. I love rocking her, but I don’t want a child that is dependent on being rocked to sleep or nursed to sleep.
Also she has been practicing sleeping in her crib during naptime once in a while. I was afraid she wouldn’t like it if she had never been in it and then we switched her from the bassinet all of a sudden.

I finally have a minute just to chat. I slept really well last night, but of course I am getting the “late afternoon” tired thing right now. Probably doesn’t help that Bailey is sleeping against my chest in her sling… my eyes are kind of droopy but I am going to dinner in like a half an hour with my mom and grandma, so no time for a nap. We are eating barbecue- note to self- do not eat the spicy sauce.
Last night Bailey was a little fussy after dinner. I think she was just tired, I was tired of holding her (gasp) and wanted her to sleep in her swing. She disagreed. She also wanted a binky, which is rare, but then it kept falling out of her mouth and she’d get mad. jonathon worked a little bit late, so when he got home at 9:15 I was like, “Congratulations, she’s yours the rest of the evening!” I feel guilty doing that after he’s been at work all day, but honestly sometimes I just need a break from having a baby attached to me in a sling or on a boob or in my lap. And I tend to either nap or get stuff done while she’s sleeping during the day, so then I haven’t had much “me” time by the end of the day. But we put her down about midnight when we were ready to go to bed and she slept until almost 6 a.m., then I fed her and got her back down around 7:15 and we slept again until 10:45.
I think she would have slept a little longer this morning except we had our breastfeeding support group/mommy’s social group. It’s at a maternity support store in the area and there are some really nice ladies that go to the group. This was my second time going and there were about 20 women there this time. Lots of little babies, some even younger than Bailey. The oldest one is about 9 months, I think. Anyway they also have a book club that meets on Tuesday mornings once a month, so I think I might try going to that next month. I am trying to build as much of a stay-at-home/social life as I can for myself.
Let’s see, what has Bailey been doing lately… still not socially smiling but she will smile randomly when she’s happy. She has now smiled several times at the ceiling fan and the windows. Apparently those just really make her happy. What can I say. She has learned to cough in the last week and she will cough once in a while, I think just for fun. She looks right at me when she does it. She never sounds like she’s choking or spitting up or anything when it happens. Today for the first time she is in her sling with her feet out. She was trying to push up in it and couldn’t settle down, so she’s in it like a big girl right now with it just under her bottom and around her back. I think she is starting to get more hair. Her head feels fuzzier and I love to kiss it and rub my face against it. She has almost outgrown newborn size diapers. She is wearing Hugg1es right now and they seem to run the biggest. Next package we will probably do size ones. Any ideas on which brand runs the smallest in that size? P@mpers seemed to be the smallest newborn ones.
Well, that’s my life lately. Breastfeeding and fuzzy head and diapers and waiting for my baby to smile at me. And I am loving it.
Busy bees
Filed Under One Month | 2 Comments
We have been so busy the last few days. Jonathon’s parents were in town on their way to Florida, so we saw them for two days. They will be there for the summer as Bob serves as a temporary pastor in a Haitian church there– so this is the last time they will see Bailey for the next few months. I think they really enjoyed their time with her, though.
I had a bridal shower at our house on Sunday for my friend Renee, who is getting married in July. I think it went really well but unfortunately I was so busy taking video of it that I didn’t get any regular camera pictures
Jonathon has been very busy at work because the end of the school year is coming up. He will be working late a few nights this week, I think. And one of my mom’s coworkers, Tammy, lost her son this weekend in a car accident so we went to his wake last night… he was only 16 and his parents just looked awful. I can’t even imagine…
Anyway, I know it’s been a while since I posted some pictures, so here are the most recent ones. Mommy tortured Bailey again with a few photo sessions, but we got the cute angel picture and the next one where she’s in the blue and white outfit.
Our angel baby
This is her official “One Month Old” picture that I took.
She likes tv just like her daddy. We have learned to face her seat away from the tv or she just zones out and watches it. She even gets that same glazed-over look like he does!

No More Spicy Food
Filed Under Breastfeeding, Food, One Month | 3 Comments
Dumb Mommy made the mistake of having enchiladas for dinner last night… while I was eating them I even commented to Jonathon about how spicy they were but I didn’t think about breastfeeding at all. So when I fed Bailey around 11 she just fussed and fussed. Once I tried to put her in bed she screamed and screamed. We kept thinking she would go to sleep eventually and kept settling her down and trying again. Finally Jonathon got her up around 2 to see if she was still hungry and she threw up from one end of the kitchen to the other. Then she was fine.
Duh… today I figured out what caused that and do I ever feel guilty!
Rolling Over?
Filed Under Milestones, One Month | Leave a Comment
By the way, before I forget I wanted to write down that Bailey officially rolled over at 1 month and 1 day old. She was having tummy time and rolled to her side, then kicked her legs and ended up on her back within a few seconds. We’ll see if she can do that again any time soon!
She also seems to be smiling AT me a little bit more lately- it still might be just random, but at least she looks at me when it happens
Five weeks old today- the time is flying by! She gets more fun each day.
Bath Pictures

Just thought these were cute and wanted to post them while I had a minute. Bath time seems to be going better lately- she still cries but it’s not quite as traumatic! Although I did get peed on yesterday after her bath…
Pediatrician- One month checkup
Filed Under Breastfeeding, One Month | 4 Comments
We went to see the doctor today for Bailey’s one month checkup. Bailey was a good girl and didn’t cry except for when she was naked on the scale. She didn’t really like having the tongue depresser in her mouth, but she just scrunched up her eyes and nose and made the Bailey noise. (Yes, we have a name for the noise she makes because she does it ALL the TIME!)
Temp was 98.6
Head circumference was 14.5 inches (50th percentile)
Length was 20.5 inches (25th percentile, she has grown 3/4 of an inch since birth)
Weight was 8 lbs 11 oz (30th percentile, she has grown 1 lb 4 oz since birth)
Heart, lungs, ears, eyes, mouth, hips, tummy, etc look good– great news about her heart because my one month checkup was when my pediatrician found my murmur!
She can go as long as she wants during the night without eating- we don’t have to wake her up anymore which is great because she’s gone 5 hours before I have had to wake her up, so I think she will go even longer… but we are still supposed to wake her up during the day after 3 hours so she doesn’t mix up days and nights.
I am going to talk to my OB about taking either an herbal thingy or a prescription to increase milk supply so that I can quit supplementing with formula. Right now Bailey gets about 4-6 oz of formula per 24 hours, so not a ton, but it’s just frustrating to have to use it to fill her up the rest of the way! There are two things the pediatrician said would work, but she said the OB usually wanted to be the one to tell me which one to try.
