Playdate at the mall play area
Filed Under Friends, Nine Months, Outings | 2 Comments
Our moms group went to the mall play area last week. Here is Bailey checking out one of the cars. I was surprised that she had such a good time. It was pretty crowded but she never seems to mind the big kids.
Bailey and Andrew- he is taking her on a date in this car… lol…
My friend Amy’s daughter, Kaitlynn, who is turning one this week!
Playing with the spinny things- she had to fight off an older boy to gain access to them! Go Bailey!
I cannot understand how my child sits comfortably like this. ALL the time. Her PAT lady commented on it and then we had her pediatrician check her hips and knees. She’s doing fine. It’s apparently just the way she likes sitting, and she can quickly turn or get on her knees (or one knee) from this position.
My friend Kim with her daughter Mackenzie, who is three months younger than Bailey
Bug and Mom- she’s not paying attention, I look so pale I could be dead. Wonderful pic of us, huh. But we don’t get our picture taken together very often because I am usually the one with the camera, so I try not to delete ALL of them!
We all had a nice time at the mall. We ate lunch at the food court- I had Subway- and then we shopped for a while. We hit the sales at Children’s Place and Gymboree but I didn’t end up getting anything. Bailey definitely doesn’t need anymore winter clothes, and I need to do a spring/summer clothes inventory before I do too much shopping. I know we got a lot of stuff on sale last year.
After the mall I went to my grandparents house to help them get their shower stool installed. It’s for my grandma, who we are afraid is going to fall in the shower
I love having them here, but I hate watching them get older.
My dad with Bailey later that afternoon
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Pictures from Saturday
Filed Under Food, Nine Months | 6 Comments
Bailey was having quite the hair day on Saturday before her bath! I got out the camera to capture the moment of hair, and then she started scavenging under the highchair for her lunch that she had dropped… so being the great parents that we are, we let her eat off the floor and took pictures while she did it. (In our defense, there was nothing really gross on the floor. Her food falls on a plastic mat that we keep clean, and it was only stuff like crackers and Cheerios…)
New Things
Filed Under Food, Milestones, Nine Months | 3 Comments
In like the last week or two Bailey has started doing some fun new stuff. I wanted to post before I forget.
-Holds her bottle/cup/spoon up to our mouths to feed us
-”Shares” her toys but then takes them back, so really she is more like “showing” them when she holds them out
-She is back to eating Cheerios again
-Will eat chunky food herself, but not if it’s on a spoon
-Making more baby talk noises and different sounds
-Takes 2 to 3 steps on her own
-Got in a “fight” with her friend Elle over some Cheerios last week. It was funny to watch them pushing each other out of the way. Bailey would grab Elle’s arm and hold it back, then Elle would do it to Bailey. We just let them keep going because it was too funny.
-Wants to stop and look at the pictures in the hallway and this one particular framed picture in our living room
-She now crawls from one room to another if she wants to go do something else- like she’ll go in her room by herself to read (but then quickly gets bored and either freaks out or comes to find us)
-Pulls EVERYTHING off the shelves in my office (like today while I was trying to submit my Avon order, she pretty much trashed my whole workspace)
-Wiggles nonstop on the changing table, cries, tries to get away…. diaper changes have become a wrestling match

We took this video yesterday at lunch and I thought it was really funny. For some reason Jonathon is shaking the camera a lot at the beginning. It gets better.
Andrew’s Birthday Party
Filed Under Birthdays, Firsts, Friends, Nine Months, Parties | 5 Comments
This past weekend, Bailey went to her first birthday party ever. (Well, other than for someone in our family). It was her friend Andrew’s first birthday. The party was supposed to be last weekend but he had the flu, so it got postponed. It was fun to be able to celebrate with him and hang out with his mom and some other friends for a while. They did a Cars theme for his party. There were two cakes, one for him and one for everyone else! They were so cute- I wish I had taken pictures of them! This makes me think more about planning Bailey’s first birthday. She might be having a butterfly party (surprise, huh).
When we arrived at the party, Sarah had a bunch of toys out for the kids to play with. Bailey really liked the busy box. I think that’s what it’s called. The thing where there are five pop-ups… you have to press a button/turn a dial/etc to get them to open… We might have to get her one of those for her birthday.
Andrew trying his birthday cake- at first he wasn’t really into it but then he ended up eating a lot of it. I just don’t have any pictures after the first few minutes because I was chasing Bailey around.
Busy playing amongst her friends and a giant pile of toys
This is what happens when you try to take the pictures of a bunch of little kids/babies. There is Bailey crawling away at the bottom right. Mackenzie seems to be the only one paying attention. AJ is holding a plate over his face, and Andrew is looking the other way. LOL
Bailey decided to go back and investigate the toy we gave Andrew.

*Note: These pictures aren’t really from Thanksgiving, they’re from this weekend. She decided she wanted to wear her Thanksgiving outfit one more time before packing it away.
Hanging out in our pj’s

Snuggle Puppy is one of her favorite books. Of course, it is even better when read upside down.
I love these white pajamas on her. Of course, you have to pretend her face isn’t covered in drool and snot. Hopefully we will have less drooly and snotty pictures now that she is on an antibiotic!
I love this girl. Look at these faces. Look how snuggly she is in her jammies. She just makes my heart melt.
Riding around in a box that Daddy was pulling- these pictures are actually from a few weeks ago. At first she wasn’t too sure about it but she ended up having fun. When I was little, my parents used to pull me around in a diaper box with a string tied on it, so we decided to try it out with Bailey… only we don’t have diaper boxes because we use cloth diapers.
9 Month Checkup
Filed Under Nine Months, Pediatrician | 6 Comments
B had her official nine month checkup today with her pediatrician, who (whom?) I love. I have to admit I spent the first part of the visit whining about how Bailey doesn’t sleep anymore, she is grumpy, snotty, etc. I seriously thought it was teething. So the doctor checks her lungs- good. Nose- good. Eyes- good. Left ear- good… Right ear- infected.
Dumb mommy. I should have known something was going on. Doctor said that it was probably only the third or fourth day and that wasn’t bad. Bailey is taking amoxicillin now, and she loves it. After just two doses, I can tell a difference in her attitude. This is her first antibiotic ever, but I guess I’m glad we managed to make it this long. Also, I am *deathly allergic to penicillin, so we had to watch her really closely (Read: She could not nap in another room) in case of an anaphylactic reaction. So far she has had two doses and doesn’t show any signs of allergy. The pharmacist said that if she were going to have a severe reaction like me, that it would probably be within the first few doses.
Anyhoo, on to the good stuff… measurements.
18 pounds 1 oz (50%)
27 1/4 inches (45%)
head 17 3/4 (90%)
I knew her head was pretty big, because we always struggle to get her shirts over her head. Even the ones that unsnap on the shoulder!
No vaccinations today- she will get her next round at her twelve month checkup. We have to go back in two weeks to get her ear checked to make sure it has cleared up. She is meeting/exceeding all the developmental milestones. She encouraged us to start trying finger foods and sippy cup but I told her we already do those regularly. LOL
*Anaphylactic shock, the most severe type of anaphylaxis, occurs when an allergic response triggers a quick release from mast cells of large quantities of immunological mediators (histamines, prostaglandins, leukotrienes) leading to systemic vasodilation (associated with a sudden drop in blood pressure) and edema of bronchial mucosa (resulting in bronchoconstriction and difficulty breathing). Anaphylactic shock can lead to death in a matter of minutes if left untreated. Yep, that’s what happens to me. Not just a little headache. Hospital via ambulance, complete with IV’s and oxygen, and defibrillator on hand.

Kiddie Kandids pic
Filed Under Nine Months, Professional Pictures | 10 Comments
Last week when my mom and I were at Babies R Us, the photographer asked if she could take some pictures of Bailey (for practice and to enter in a photography contest, supposedly). They just opened a Kiddie Kandids studio there a few months ago.We got a free 8×10 out of the deal.
Normally, I get her pictures done at JC Penneys for a lot cheaper. That’s where we went this morning for her Valentine’s Day pics. There was a new photographer there this morning, and she did a really good job. I even ended up ordering one pose with both me and Bailey in it. I hate pictures of me lately.
But anyway, here is the one they took last week. I think it turned out really cute

Church Nursery
Filed Under Church, Firsts, Nine Months | 6 Comments
Okay, so normally I am very happy with our church nursery. Well, not that I’m NOT happy today, but there’s a story here. I work in the nursery every other Sunday morning, as I have for four years now. I also do paid childcare at church on Tuesday mornings and on Wednesday evenings. So I’m there a lot. I know how things work, or how they are supposed to work. Once in a while, things don’t go according to plan, but it’s usually not a big deal.
Today Bailey was in her little classroom and did surprisingly well when I dropped her off. She has been having her separation anxiety issues at home when I am not near her, but she seems to do better when we are somewhere else. She is much more independent away from home, most likely because there are new things to explore. Which is funny, because my friend Amy’s little girl is the opposite. We were discussing that the other day. But anyway, I dropped her off and she seemed okay. I was working in another classroom during the first service but poked my head in at the end and she was still okay. I wondered if she would last through Sunday School because it would be her naptime, and last week she was fussy then. I kind of expected to be paged.
So I am sitting listening to announcements and my pager starts vibrating. These things really get your attention, but like I said I wasn’t surprised. I picked up my purse (so I could show ID) and walked to the nursery. As I passed the front desk I asked if she was having a hard time. They said no, that she had gotten hurt! What? My baby got hurt in her classroom?
When I got to the door of her classroom, she was sobbing and one of the ladies was carrying her around and trying to distract her with a book. She had a big cut spot on her forehead and it was already starting to bruise. Of course she wouldn’t let them put ice on it. Her nose was snotting all over her face and mixing in with the tears. My poor girl. What happened was that she fell somehow (Jan, my guess is that she was trying to pull up or cruise along the cabinets but I guess I never asked)… anyway she bumped her forehead on the ONE thing in the room that could have possibly hurt her. I have never questioned whether the classrooms were safe, but there is a small hinge on the edge of the cabinet and of course her head collided with like that half inch spot in the entire classroom that could have hurt her.
I ended up taking her to the nursing room and sitting with her a while, letting her eat and calm down. We went back to the desk and talked to Kelli, and I decided to keep her with me for a little while. She was over it, but I wasn’t. This was her first actual injury, I mean one that left a visible mark at least. And of course she has pictures scheduled for tomorrow morning. Time to break out the concealer. After walking around with her for a bit and then trying to sit with her in church, I gave up and took her back to the nursery after all for like the last fifteen minutes.
My mom picked her up afterwards and asked why she got hurt, if the teachers weren’t watching or if there were too many kids in there. I told her no, that it could have happened at home. Those things happen so fast. Even when you think the area is totally safe, the kids will find the one spot that can hurt them. It’s just bad luck and part of being a kid to have those bumps and bruises… but it did really make me sad. I almost cried, and I know Bailey forgot about it hours ago but here I am blogging about it. I’m really not mad at all or upset with the nursery. She’s a busy girl and pulling up and getting into everything, so I’m surprised it didn’t happen before now. But this also means she is getting bigger and becoming more of a kid and less of a baby.
Anyway, if you made it this far I am impressed. Sometimes it just helps for me to get my thoughts written out. You should see how many posts I have that never made it out of the draft stage.
This picture was taken in Bailey’s old nursery classroom just before Christmas.
Refusing to Pose

My kid absolutely refuses to sit still while I take her picture. The other day I thought she looked so cute and grown up in her “big girl jeans” and I wanted to get a picture of her before we left the house. This is what I ended up with:

Hey look! I can see you guys through here! (Looking down at Daddy, who was standing at the top of the first flight of stairs).
What would happen if I put this toy through here??
Ahh, never mind. You guys never give me my toys back anymore when I drop them. I’m going to hang on to this guy.
**This activity was carefully supervised, but thanks for asking**
