When the ponytails come out…
Filed Under Daddy, Eighteen Months, Hair | 1 Comment
Bailey has Jonathon’s hair- don’t need to do any DNA testing to know that he’s her dad!- it just stays in whatever position it gets pressed into. He can lay on the couch for five minutes and his hair sticks up. Even if he wets it down and combs it, it doesn’t help. He has to wash and start over. Hers is totally the same way. These pictures were about an hour after her ponytails were taken out.

First Haircut
Filed Under Firsts, Hair, Seventeen Months | 8 Comments
Bailey had her first real haircut tonight (other than me attempting to trim it). We went to Snip Its. Their regular kids haircut is $18, but we had a coupon for half price. Also, they will do bangs for only $8.99 so I have a feeling we will go there in the future when her bangs need to be cut. For that price, its not even worth messing with it myself!
The place is really cute. It is super busy/overdecorated but it definitely kept Bailey’s attention during her haircut. The girl who did her hair was really fast. She created bangs for her- like actually sectioned them off so that they are defined and separate from the rest of her hair now. I had her cut them kind of short- well they ended up a little shorter than I wanted them by the time they dried- but I wanted a significant difference between where they started and stopped so I could pull her non-bang hair up easily and not have to separate it out with a comb. If that makes sense. She also trimmed about a half inch all the way around. Bailey got a toy to hold during the haircut, and then afterwards she got a ponytail and got to choose a special ribbon.
She got to put a “ticket” in a prize machine. It is a big machine that dispenses little things like rings and plastic toys. So the kids always get a reward for getting their hair cut. She also got a first haircut certificate and a little lock of her hair in a tiny ziploc attached to it. We bought some new shampoo that they said will be easier to rinse out of her hair than the Johnsons stuff. Maybe less shampoo battles now??
This was the before picture that I took, before we got out of the car. You can see how long and scraggly her bangs were.

Look at her feet. They never stop moving, ever. I’m glad I finally captured them in motion.

She was really good during her haircut. She sat still and the woman even commented on how great she did for a first haircut. I am attributing it to all the hours she has spent having her hair styled by Mommy!

I forgot to mention they gave her a balloon, too. She spent the entire car ride yelling “Bad, bad, bad” at the balloon. I have no idea why.

We also celebrated with an ice cream cone afterwards.

Claire’s Baptism
Filed Under Friends, Hair, Parties, Sixteen Months | 6 Comments
My friend Sarah had her little baby Claire baptized on Saturday. We were going to go to the actual mass until we found out that her church didn’t have a nursery, and then my parents already had plans so we couldn’t get a free babysitter… and then at 4:55 Bailey was still napping so we decided to just show up for the party. Cause that’s how we roll. We’re classy like that.
I got a few pictures of Bailey before we left the house. I got her to sit still and actually put in good pigtails. She ripped one of them out in the car before we even got to the party, five minutes away from home. But here are the “Before” pics:

The party was really nice. They had it catered and we drank wine. Well when I say we, I don’t mean Jonathan. I cannot find a wine that he likes. He’s more of a foo foo drink kinda guy. I mean that in the manliest way possible, honey
Bailey was being kind of a nut the whole time. She wanted to go outside and play in the playhouse and on the cozy coupe. Well, the only people outside were standing next to it smoking, so that was fine for a while but then we decided to come inside. Where she ran around the house like a chicken with its head off and kept trying to climb the stairs. She finally stopped to play with Claire’s carseat for a while. I don’t know why she thinks it’s so fun.

Then we caught her digging in the candy dish and biting the Hersheys Kisses. Sorry, Sarah, if we didn’t manage to get all the ones with bite marks out. But I think we did ![]()

And finally, a picture with Bailey and Claire together. Claire is being held by Sarah’s cousin Katie. Its fun to see her cousins because we used to hang out with Nikki a lot in high school. They are both engaged now too.

Here are the hair pictures, finally

Today I managed to get Bailey to sit still long enough to take a few pictures of her haircut. And I couldn’t believe it- I even got her to look at the camera a few times too
Most pictures I take end up being of the back of her head as she runs away. I don’t think it’s that she hates the camera, she’s just too busy to hold still for it. I envy those moms who say their kids love it when they get the camera out, and start smiling and cheesing.
I think her bangs turned out decent. I like bangs on little girls, especially little girls like mine who don’t have small foreheads ![]()

And the back. Much better than the shagginess that was becoming a mullet.

And one of her actually looking at the camera, even though she’s fake smiling. I think she’s just tolerating me for a minute so that I’ll let her go back to reading. She’s lifting all the flaps looking for Elmo’s Blanket. This kid sure does love to read. If you’ve been around her for any amount of time at all you know it’s her absolute favorite thing to do.

Works For Me Wednesday- Toddler Haircuts

I have now given Bailey her second haircut. The first time was just her bangs; this last time I did her bangs and about an inch off the back. People have been asking me how I got a one year old to hold still while I did her hair. So I am going to share with you the brilliant tip I was given by one of my Avon customers.
When you need your busy, squirmy child to hold still for something, wrap a small bandaid around each fingertip on their left hand. Then they will sit and pick those bandaids off one by one. By the time they are done, you’re finished with their haircut!
I haven’t gotten a good picture of her hair yet- I just got my camera back tonight- so I will work on getting a picture tomorrow. I think it turned out pretty good. I mean, it’s even and there aren’t any chunks missing. What else can you expect from a novice haircutter and a one year old?

And just because I’m excited to have my camera back, here are the first pictures we took tonight at home!

Around the House

For the last few weeks it has been dreadfully hot, up until just this past weekend. We have stayed home a lot of days, instead of just finding something to do. Gas is expensive, it’s sooo sweaty outside, and I have just felt like hanging out at home. We have played in the pool/sprinkler a bit, but other than that we’ve just been in the house.
Bailey has gotten a few new toys, including some wooden puzzles from Jonathon’s parents, a new Elmo video and stuffed Elmo from Mommy, and some new books. I have also been making more of an effort to rotate her toys so that she doesn’t get tired of the same ones. Her absolute favorite thing is her Little People Zoo. She doesn’t really care about the zoo part, but she loves the animals. Her new thing is lining them up on the couch or the coffee table. I have also noticed that sometimes she will get only the birds out (there are like six different kinds of birds in the set). For some reason, she really likes birds. Maybe because my parents make a big deal out of looking at the birds at the feeders on their deck.
Here she is lining up her animals. Yes, I know my coffee table needs to be cleaned. Glass top tables are constantly gross, especially with kids around. Of course that’s what we bought, before having a kid!
Whining at Mommy… this happens more than it used to. But my reason for including this picture- you can see her “haircut” because her bangs are actually laying nicely in this shot. I can’t believe this was just a month ago and already they are down to her eyebrows again. I think her hair grows fast like mine!

Playing with her baby and her Fuzzy bear. She loves to carry them around and hug them and pat their backs.

This is about as messy as she gets when she eats… weird, I know. Only maybe three times that I can think of has she gotten messier than this or gotten food in her hair.

Let me out of here, Mom! I’m sick of being at home!

Little Pigtails
Filed Under Fifteen Months, Firsts, Hair | 4 Comments
Bailey wore pigtails for the first time on Sunday! When I was getting her ready for church I thought her hair might be long enough to try it. I should have planned it out more and had her buckled in her highchair or something, but Jonathon helped me hold her still on the changing table and I put in some piggies really fast. They are a little crooked because I didn’t have a comb, just a big round metal brush. (Like I said, it was a last minute idea). She was running around while I tried to take pictures but at least you can kind of see them.
My Hair

A friend commented to me today that she noticed my hair cut/color and liked it. I get my hair done by this girl. If you want her contact info, just ask!
I also found a picture of a haircut I like on this blog. Do you think I could pull this off, only little bit longer than in the picture? I like having short hair but last time Jonathon told me I looked like a mushroom
Also, a new Avon recommendation. Forget using random pimple cream. A friend of mine has been using the Avon Clearskin Immediate Response Spot Treatment and says it’s the best thing she’s tried. It’s only $4.99– And in the past she has also used both Arb*nne and M@ry K@y.
Wordless Wednesday- Kisses
Filed Under Fourteen Months, Hair, Wordless Wednesday | 15 Comments
Bailey likes to stand in front of the oven and kiss her reflection. I finally got a picture of it!

And I just have to share this one so you can see her bangs- yes, I cut them. They were getting so shaggy.
