Painter

Bailey’s new thing is painting- she loves it! It makes me a little nervous when she starts flinging/splashing paint but I am trying to get over that. Thank you to Casey and Addison for Bailey’s art smock!

Christmas Tree Shirt Painting

Filed Under Christmas, Crafts, Twenty Months | 6 Comments

The other day, my friend Casey invited us over to make Christmas shirts with her and her daughter, Addison. We had been talking about how we didn’t get the girls Christmas shirts this year, just dresses. So she had this cute craft idea and we decided to try it out.

Bailey loved painting. I thought that she would flip about having paint on her hands but she didn’t seem to mind. We have been working on doing more sensory stuff, so hopefully it’s been helping. She also loved these little puffy ball things and kept wanting to hold them all. She would take one and rub it on paper and tell me she was painting. So I’m not really sure that she grasped the definition of “paint.”

Yes, she has eyeshadow on in this picture. You might have to click on it to see it bigger in order to actually SEE the eyeshadow and paint. She kept bugging me about mind so I told her to close her eyes and she let me put it on. She also likes to wear powder and lip gloss. Kids these days ;) Anyway i thought this picture was funny because you can see the eyeshadow and also the paint she got all over her face. We also learned from this experience- if you are doing an art project with one and a half year olds, and it has the potential to be messy, it’s better to let them do it one at a time so you have another adult for backup help. Otherwise you are both messy and have a kid covered in paint, and no spare hands.

Here is the finished shirt. It turned out cute but I wish it didn’t have the random smears of paint on it. That’s what you get when your kid makes it themselves, though. But I have always told myself I am not going to be one of those moms who does their kid’s art project FOR them. I know you know the kind I mean. You go to a class and the mom is all “No honey, let mommy color it for you.” Who cares, it’s their art, not yours. And I guess everyone will be quite aware of that on Christmas day this year when she wears her shirt!

This last one is from after we got home that day. Bailey likes to put stuff in this little Christmas tin. She is also starting to get really excited about Santa. She tries to say Santa Claus but it comes out “Kee Claush.” If you ask her what Santa brings, she says “Toys!” and if you ask her what else, she says “Shishens.” She is getting a play kitchen for Christmas so we keep telling her maybe Santa will bring a kitchen.

My Day Off

Before I forget, here are the flowers Jonathon got me on Saturday:

Today Jonathon had a day off work because of snow, so I decided to use one of my day off cards that he gave me for Valentine’s Day. I slept in until almost 9:00, which was WONDERFUL. Then I checked email and read some blogs, then headed over to my mom’s house to make some greeting cards and pick up some money from people at her work that she delivered Avon to. We spent about four hours gabbing and crafting and eating lunch. Then she let me try this awesome new Ped Egg. I might have to order one since they’re buy one get one free!

Once I got home I used my Pedi Peels from Avon (they get your feet all un-gunky and make them so nice and smooth) and then painted my toenails. I seriously feel like I had a real pedicure. So it wasn’t quite as relaxing, but it was much cheaper!

The only downside of being gone all day today was that I had to scrape off my car before leaving my parents house. There was eight inches of snow on my car! The drive home wasn’t bad since they had been plowing/salting all day, but have I mentioned that they don’t plow our neighborhood? That should be illegal. You’d think we live in the boonies or something. Um, with these taxes someone could get their lazy butt out here with a plow. Thanks. But it was nice coming home to my little Muffin (and of course my husband, too, LOL). When I walked in she yelled “HI!” and started waving frantically. It was the best moment of my whole day.

Here’s a fun messy face picture from dinner tonight.

Bailey seems to be feeling better today. She’s less grumpy and I think coughing less. She is also taking more and more steps- about 8 or 10 at a time I think- and can turn around while walking! Tonigh she had a lot of fun putting these plastic balls in her rocking chair/seat and then taking them back out… over and over… but of course we think it’s fabulous no matter what she does :)

Hairbows and Wreaths

Filed Under Crafts | 1 Comment

I have gotten into the swing of making hairbows for Bailey to match her various outfits. I made her a cute kind of sparkly orange one for tomorrow to go with her Thanksgiving outfit. I will have to make sure to get a picture of it, and to take some pics of the other ones I have made as well. I got some great instructions at this Girly Things site.

Another thing I would like to do is buy some wholesale flowers and make more wreaths. I have them for every season for my door- it’s something my mom got me started on a few years ago- but I have considered making them and selling them. Here is the one that she made for my door when Bailey was born:

It’s Me!

I am officially famous. Ha. I am on my friend Mae’s internet show. Check me out at http://wordtoyourmuthatheshow.blogspot.com

My interview is several minutes into the show, but you should really watch the whole thing, because she is very talented and fun (and funny)! Also, the bloopers at the end are worth sticking around for. Yes, I am actually encouraging people to come watch me make a fool of myself.

Also, another shameless plug for my handmade cards that we discuss on the show:

I plan to add more cards to the site today. Or contact me if you have special requests.

I listed some new fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving themed cards on my Etsy site. More to come within the next few days. Go check it out!!

Also, if you need a card for a particular occasion and would like me to design something for you, I would love to do that! I have made the invitations for several baby showers, bridal showers, and birthday parties now, as well as personalized baby and birthday cards.

Are You Kidding?

I didn’t even think of this. I could have made invitations or announcements for Bailey’s dedication service. I never miss an opportunity to make cards. I use any excuse possible- but I didn’t think of that at all. I could have done something like this:

I have spent way too much time shopping online lately. Well, basically just window shopping. I have found the most random things- but also some great deals, like some cute jeans for Bailey that I am bidding on (eBay) and a pair of Robeez that were discontinued. I have become kind of an Etsy junkie lately too. I need to find a better hobby.

Has anyone made their own? I want to make some for Bailey- like ribbon on the alligator pinch clip type thing. How easy/hard is it? I want to start off with stuff like this:

And when she gets a little bigger I want to do some like this:

My Etsy Store

I did it! I finally set up a little shop to sell my handmade cards. Stop by and check it out :)

It’s amazing the stuff you can find on this site. Jewelry, handmade clothes, RC Cars, scrapbooking pages…

Cards

Filed Under Crafts | 5 Comments

I have done a lot of stuff with making my own greeting cards- those of you who know me “in real life” have probably seen them. My mom also does it… and recently she has been encouraged to start selling the cards she makes. She has had a few offers from people to buy them. Here’s what I’m wondering: Do you think it’s possible to sell handmade cards? If so, how and where? Create a website? And then how to bring traffic to that site?

I will try to scan and get some pictures of stuff posted within the next few days. This is something I have been thinking about for a while- and also I’ve been thinking about creating a blog to show the cards I’ve made. Yeah, I’m a dork :)
