Baby Beehinds Cover
Filed Under Cloth Diapering, Fourteen Months | 3 Comments
Here is Bailey in her new Baby Beehinds diaper cover. I like the fit a little better than the Bummis covers. It just doesn’t have the little “pocket” thing at the top of the front, where you stick the top of the prefold in. Do you know what I mean? Like so the pee doesn’t spread upward and get the clothes damp? That hasn’t happened yet anyway, I’m just sayin… I got this from my friend Unkempt Mommy and I think I might have to buy another one. This one is a medium and there is plenty of room left. I have also been using mostly infant size prefolds lately. They still hold enough pee but they aren’t as ridiculously bulky. The fit is a lot more trim, in fact probably slimmer than the Bum Genius diapers that we have.
Snappity Snap

Check out what I did today. It was a result of being both very brave and also being out of clean diaper covers or pocket diapers. I actually used my Snappi successfully for the first time and put B in a prefold without a cover! Actually I tri-folded one prefold and laid it on top of another, then used the unfolded one to wrap around her and Snappi. The result is a big puffy diaper, but it worked until the other stuff was done drying. And now I know I can do it. I kinda like accessorizing with her diapers. I know this one isn’t exactly a fashion statement but she’s still too little for jewelry and this is something besides clothes and hair that I can play around with.
Right now I am in kind of an anti-disposable diaper phase. I go back and forth with how much I use them (like for outings and stuff) but then I read an article about chemicals in disposables again the other day. So back to all cloth except nighttime, and Sunday mornings at church. Hey, using only 8 or 9 diapers a week cuts our bill down- we can make one pack of Luvs ($6.99 on sale at Target) last a month!
Here she is with her giant puff butt!
Havin’ a Ball

Har har. Guess what this post is going to be about? Bailey and her new favorite toy- balls. She has been so into playing with her big green Winnie the Pooh ball. She continues to love the small plastic balls that go in her ball/track/toy thing. She especially likes to carry them around and bang them together. She has started understanding about “playing” ball. She likes me to roll the ball to her. Then she hands it back to me so that I can roll it to her again. I try to get her to let go and roll it back to me, but she won’t. Not sure when they’re supposed to start doing that.
Also you can see her new diaper stuff in these pictures. It’s the Bummi cover with a prefold under it.
I know this isn’t the greatest picture but I like that it shows her walking skillz!
She had to take a break and pull her socks off before she could continue playing…
Just wanted to post some pictures because I realized I have tons on my computer that I haven’t shared… and you know how that kills me… once B wakes up from her nap the family is coming over to celebrate Easter so I’ll post about it later if I have a minute! Happy Easter!
And then I got crazy and tried prefolds…

I got kind of crazy this week. I decided our diaper stash was too small. I have found things I don’t like and sold them. For example, the Fuzzi Bunz just leaked way too much and could not get tight enough around Bailey’s legs. So those went. Some WAHM diapers I bought online were too thick (AIOs) or too crappy, so those went. I do not really want to do laundry every other day, so I wanted to expand our stash as cheaply as possible. It is currently almost all Bum Genius one-size pocket diapers, and at $17.95 apiece we really can’t afford to double the amount we own!
Enter prefolds. Yep, I did it. And the funny thing is, I like them. I never thought I would even try them, but I really enjoy using them. I only use them with the Bummi covers, so they don’t need pins or anything. I bought a “try it” package from Cottonbabies and I think next time I’m there I will pick up more premium size Chinese prefolds. I tried using a Snappi but that didn’t work so well. Either it takes lots of practice, or I am an idiot.
Here is some of our new stuff:
One thing is, Bailey’s butt looks bigger in them. And poop? Not so fun to clean out. But, they’re great for at home, and her tushie looks so cute in the flower cover. Also, Girl sent me some Babylegs that she made so now I can let her run around in a diaper and her leg warmers
I have had a lot of people ask me what/how many diapers I have, so here it is:
15 Bum Genius 2.0s and microfiber inserts
1 Bumkins AIO
8 prefolds
1 WAHM pocket diaper
2 Bummi Super Whisper Wrap covers
1 Snappi
6 cotton/fleece doublers
A few random fleece pieces to use with diaper cream

I don’t know if I ever posted about them once we started using them. They rock my world. If you have been at all on the fence (or even possibly considering trying cloth diapers) please order a 3-pack (at least) of these and give it a shot. They are so, so soft. Easy to wash and take care of. No stains. Poop comes out easily. Bailey hasn’t leaked yet in one. We still use a disposable overnight, but these are soooo great.
When we went to Oklahoma, I didn’t want to do diaper laundry there so I brought disposables to use for the first few days and then cloth to use for the last couple days so we could bring them home and wash them after the trip. I really hated using the disposables after being used to these. They seem like they would be so much nicer on her skin.
With these diapers, there is a pocket that an “insert” (the absorbant thing) goes into. The material that is next to her skin is microsuede and it pulls the moisture away and into the insert, hidden inside the pocket. So the cloth next to her skin stays dry. She hasn’t had diaper rash at all since we switched to cloth, except for once when her poop was really weird. We haven’t bought diapers in over a month. To wash I do warm or hot wash, rinse, extra rinse. Minimal detergent and no fabric softener. If there is some poop on the diapers I do a cold soak/rinse first. I dry the diapers flat on top of the machine and machine-dry the inserts. Just to make the velcro and everything last longer. I usually wash twice a week.
Anyway I am nowhere NEAR being an expert about this, but if you have any questions feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer. Also, if you live in STL go to Cottonbabies in person. You can buy used diapers there (they look brand new) and they are sooo much cheaper than the ones they have online!
Jonathon’s Birthday- pictures
Filed Under Birthdays, Cloth Diapering, Seven Months | 3 Comments
These first few pictures aren’t from Jonathon’s birthday. They were the other day when Bailey had on a Happy Heinys diaper and I wanted to get a picture of it. I’m not sure that I like the diaper. It seems to absort/hold okay, but it is HUGE (it’s a large) and the material is really, really stiff. I am kind of glad I only got one.
Blowing out the candles on his ice cream cake… see how three plus two equals 32?? Aren’t I clever. Actually I forgot to get candles…. Oops
I love this picture of Bailey with her Grammy and Grandpa. I couldn’t get a really good “posed” picture of the three of them, but I just love this one!
Mommy and Baby
I told Jonathon to “look cute” before I took this picture. So this is what he did.
Bailey standing up with her new toy- I’ve posted pictures of it before but lately it’s like the ONLY thing she will play with. It’s about her shoulder height and has tracks/tubes that you can drop balls through. It lights up and does some other stuff, but she’s fairly sure that it only exists for her to pull up on and walk around
Now this afternoon Jonathon is ditching out on me to go see I Am Legend with some guys. I am sooo glad I don’t have to see it with him. Isn’t that awful? I would rather sit through a business performance management course than a movie without dialogue.
Fuzzi Bunny
Filed Under Cloth Diapering, Input Needed, Seven Months | 4 Comments
I got my Fuzzi Bunz diapers in the mail on Friday, and got them washed and tried them for the first time today. So far we have only done about 2-3 cloth diapers each day. I only have 8 total so far, since I am still waiting to get a lot of them in the mail/delivered. Plus I have been nervous about putting her to bed in cloth, but today she used a Fuzzi Bun(z?) at naptime and she didn’t leak. Here is a picture of her trying one on for the first time. (The black spot is where I removed our last name from her bottle)
In fact, she hasn’t leaked yet in cloth. I noticed that the leg holes are a little gappy between her legs in the FBs. I have them snapped on the tightest setting for both legs and waist. They are mediums, and she is kind of at the beginning of that weight range still. Is it really bad that they gap a bit like this? Is there something I can do to make it better or is it a matter of her just growing into them?
I tried to take a picture in case anyone has any input.
Instead of a drug rehabilitation I think they need to make a rehab for cloth diaper junkies. I always thought people were crazy for being so into them. I spend way to much time shopping online for them and reading about them.
The Cloth Diaper Experiment- Our First Time
Filed Under Cloth Diapering, Frugal, Seven Months | 7 Comments
Today I got my first order of cloth diapers in the mail. They are some random pocket diapers that I bought (new) on eBay. They said that they went up to 30 pounds, but as you can see in the picture, they are kind of low-rise on Bailey. I think the sizing was a little off and she actually probably needed a large instead. But they will be fine for back-up diapers for at home
So of course as soon as I got them, I had to try washing them. For those of you who are curious about cloth diapering, here is what I did: I did a cold wash with 1/4 cup detergent, then I did a warm wash with a load of undies and t-shirts on warm, with extra rinse. That was with about 1/2 detergent. Dried on medium and took them out as soon as they were dry. The inserts for the pockets took a little longer to dry than the diapers themselves.
Then I ran upstairs and took off the disposable diaper that B had on and put on her first cloth diaper. That’s what she has on in these pictures. I finally got some pictures of her doing her crazy gymnastics moves. That’s why she exhausts me. But back to cloth diapering- I was sooo freaked out with the first diaper that it was going to leak. I checked it repeatedly and then realized that I couldn’t tell whether it was wet by sticking my hand inside, because the diaper pulls the pee into the insert and away from her skin. So I reached down into the pocket and touched the insert, and it was really wet. It lasted about an hour and a half. I probably could have left her in it longer, but I was mega paranoid.
Then I put her in the second diaper, which she wore until bedtime. Again, it was wet, but no leaking. At this point, we are discussing what to do for a diaper pail. Our current strategy is “carry the diaper downstairs and toss it in the washer until laundry needs to be done” but I don’t know how long that can go on! She went to bed in her regular disposable diaper, the size bigger one that we refer to as her Night-Night Diaper. She pees A LOT at night.
And my big event of the day was ordering 12 Bum Genius diapers, a bag for my diaper bag, and some extra inserts. This stuff is not cheap, guys. I just have to remind myself that it will save money in the long run.
And now, here are some more of my little monkey in her new dipes.
I finally did it…

I am going to try cloth diapering! Not like the ones that you have to pin or Snappi together or anything… just some pocket diapers and some All in ones (AIOs). It took me a while to research enough that I thought I could buy some and figure out how to use them.
I am currently bidding on a few on eBay… but these are the two that I have already ordered so far to try:
BumGenius
I have been shopping mostly on eBay and also looking at Cottonbabies and Jacks Magic Beanstalk. Both of them just so happen to be located in St. Louis. Someday I might get brave enough to go to the actual stores.
Right now I am thinking I will just try to use cloth at home. We’ll see how it goes. I like the idea of saving money, and I like that I am doing something good for the environment and also, if you haven’t felt the inside of a cloth diaper, man those things are SOFT. I would love having that next to my butt all day.
And if you think cloth diapers aren’t cute, check out these pictures!
I will keep you posted on how it goes.
