Wedding Photo Contest- Please Vote!

Filed Under Contests | 2 Comments

My friend Nicole posted about this photo contest. She’s trying to help an aunt of a friend of a relative (or something like that) with a reunion trip to Florida with her bridesmaids. From her wedding back in the 70s- how cool is that? The bride from the photo’s son is being treated for cancer, so I’m sure she has been dealing with a lot lately and it sounds like she could really use a getaway trip with her girlfriends.

Please click on this link and vote. She is in first place but not by much. You can vote up to once an hour and you don’t have to register or anything. I’m keeping the tab open on my computer so that I can remember. How cool would it be to know that you helped some ladies win a trip to Florida with their old friends?

Next Post- Details!

Filed Under Second Pregnancy, Symptoms | 10 Comments

As requested by Tiffany, “Next post- details!”

Yes, we are expecting Baby #2 here at the Stick house. No, we do not know the gender yet, but yes, we will find out when the time comes! We are almost 12 weeks now, and so that should be sometime in early to mid October. After my cruise!

I am feeling good now. From weeks 6-8 1/2 it was kind of iffy. I had an all-day queasiness and I had a hard time finding something to eat, so then I felt worse from being hungry. I never actually threw up, same as my pregnancy with Bailey. I was absolutely exhausted but just as I hit the 11 week mark, I started getting bursts of energy. Same as with Bailey. My boobs hurt, but it’s not unbearable. Unless they are being smashed by my lovely two year old. I have had gas at night- like shooting pains in my abdomen- same as with Bailey. Aren’t you glad you get all these details? Don’t forget, my blog is also my own journal.

So right now I am a little more tired than usual, and I do have some food aversions and probably the beginning of cravings: (NO chicken, YES regular Coke, NO diet soda, YES chocolate cake, NO ice cream, NO pork, NO hamburgers, YES hash brown casserole!) Oh and a big YES to Sonic lemon berry slush with orange. They are half price between 2 and 4 and I have actually considered altering Bailey’s nap schedule to accomodate that. Pathetic, huh?

Our due date is March 8th. Our first ultrasound was at 7 1/2 weeks and showed a perfect little bean with a heartbeat. I have my next checkup on Monday. So probably more news after that!

My Bailey Bug

Oh, and yesterday- she got in trouble and afterwards she walked over to where I was sitting on the couch, pressed her face up against my face, and said “You SOOOO pretty, Mommy!” They learn to scam people at a young age. How can you be mad after that?

School Desk

Filed Under Learning, Talking, Two Years Old | 2 Comments

I have mentioned before how we have the old-school Fisher Price School Days chalkboard/desk with the magnetic letters. Now that Bailey knows her letters she is even more into it. She likes to “read” things everywhere she goes. At Petco, she said, “Look Mommy! P-E-T-C-O! And birds in the O!” Sure enough, there was a birds nest in the middle of the O. Yesterday at her OT visit, the word “Welcome” was written under the front desk at her eye level. I didn’t know that she recognized lower case letters but she spelled it out again. Only she read the lowercase L as an “i” instead. Close enough.

So the point of this story. Last night she was looking at her Fisher Price desk. She said, “S-C-H-O-O-L D-E-S-K spells Bailey!” She knows her letter sounds so we might have to start working on sounding out words. Otherwise she will just always think that everything spells Bailey!

She is spelling things everywhere she goes. She will name the letters anywhere she can find them. Oh, I really hope she loves to read when she gets older.

Minivan Shopping

Filed Under Input Needed, Shopping | 4 Comments

Yes, we’re doing it. As in, tomorrow. Jonathon’s car (my old car for those of you who remember it, poor guy!) started having trouble today. So we are going to look tomorrow and Saturday and hopefully buy a minivan within the next few days or week. We have some ideas of what we might want but have not driven anything yet. If you are a minivan driver, please share any thoughts or opinions. Brands, dealerships (St. Louis metro area), specials, things to avoid etc.

And if you think I am lame for getting a minivan, you can bite me. I’m excited about it. Yep, I’m officially a mom. Pushing thirty. And looking forward to driving a nice big minivan instead of a Camry.

Bailey’s OT

Filed Under Gymnastics, O.T., Thoughts, Two Years Old | 4 Comments

I can’t believe it’s been so long since I’ve written a real post. I have to admit, I miss it. I really do. I have been emotional lately anyway- I can’t believe how big my sweet little girl has gotten. Today was her last occupational therapy appointment. She is eating, and we are continuing to work on her vestibular “issues” if you want to call it that. Her therapist is so proud of the progress she has made. I have to admit that as much as I hated taking her there, I was sad for it to be over. It’s hard to say goodbye to someone who has helped your child so much. They really become important in your life. We’ve seen her twice a week for basically four months now. She has gone to summer camp in their office. We’ve had tears and triumphs and lots of lollipops. We’re done.

I promised myself (and Bailey) that when she finished we could start gymnastics. We went to her first class last week and she loved it. She is doing flips around the bars and walking on the balance beam (with the teacher’s help, of course). My girl is fearless and if I don’t keep up with her she’ll just try it without me or without her teacher. Yesterday she started trying to do summersaults off the edge of the couch. We also had to pack up her high chair because she was pulling it over to the couch and jumping off the couch, trying to grab the back of the chair and swing. She makes me nervous.

A friend and I were talking yesterday about our daughters’ personalities. Hers is more hesitant and cautious. Mine plunges headfirst into just about anything. I hope that serves her well in life but that she doesn’t get hurt too much along the way.

And because I haven’t shared any pictures in a while…
