Why Target Makes Me Mad

Filed Under Complaining, Shopping | 5 Comments

So they have good deals. And they’re not as junky as Dirty Mart. But their return policy? Sucks, sucks, sucks. Anyone who has ever tried to return anything there knows this. They allow two returns per year without a receipt. Yep, PER YEAR. Not two batches of items to return, two items. Unless they are marked “purchased” on your baby registry. We learned this trick. If you need to return things, go to the store and register for them first. Go home and mark them purchased (online) and then you are free to go return them. In fact, if I am stuck with something strange in the future that I have to return, I just might create a new wedding or baby registry.

Why is this coming up now, you ask? Because today when I was at Target, an especially chatty saleswoman told me their policy was about to change. I said something like, “So it’s going to get less crazy?” She said, “No, I think they are going to stop allowing ANY returns without receipts. There’s just too much fraud.” Die, Target. You greedy fools.

I thought they had a thing where they could see which card you used to buy the product so you didn’t need the receipt? If you paid cash, I guess you’re out of luck, but I always use my credit/debit cards and that seemed to work before. Although I haven’t had to return anything in awhile…

Delurking to say that my sister has worked for Target for awhile so I have learned the return policy. Yes it sucks, but it definitely makes you think about whether or not you REALLY want to make that purchase!

Thanks for the tip on how to get around the 2-item limit! I will have to remember that. I agree, I’ve always thought their policy sucked. I wonder if the registry thing will still work when they change their policy to absolutely no items returned w/o a receipt. Hhhmm.

[...] Of course it is from stupid Target and we will have quite the run around trying to return it, just like I wrote about here. That is so frustrating. I’m going to have to start searching for that [...]
