Baby Furniture

Jonathon and I accomplished the huge project of choosing and buying the furniture for the nursery. We didn’t realize it was going to be so complicated. We looked around online a little bit and talked about going shopping. Then we went outside to get the mail, and there was a check from my mom and dad for the crib- totally unexpected!

So we headed to Babies R Us for what we thought would be a fun thing to do. Over two hours later, we were still trying to figure out what to get. The nursery is the smallest bedroom in our house, okay except for Jonathon’s office… so we didn’t want to get a dresser AND a changing table. We wanted a combo/all-in-one. So many of the bedroom sets didn’t have those as an option. Then the ones that did, had a crib that the front didn’t lower to get the baby in and out. We also knew we didn’t want white. Then we found a mahogany set we liked, only to find that the glider that matched was over $400 and the only choice. Also, Jonathon was insisting on real wood, which drove the price up a lot, but I know it will last longer, so I am glad we ended up going with that. Good decision, sweetie!

We finally settled on a natural (real wood!) finish, side-lowering, changes to toddler bed and then to adult headboard and footboard, on wheels, bed. Everything we were looking for, and I think it’s pretty. It only took Jonathon about 20 minutes to assemble, and it feels really sturdy.

The dresser that we ended up getting wasn’t from the same set, but it matches perfectly. It’s longer than a traditional combo-changer thing, so we will have a little extra space. It’s mostly real wood instead of composite, so it should hold up for a long time. Lots of drawers.

Now our only task left, furniture-wise, is to find a gliding rocking chair. The ones on Babies R Us online are only about $150-200, as opposed to $350 or more in the store. Also, the wood color of the nursery furniture is very plain and not really grainy, so it should be easy to find something to match.

We are holding off making our final decorating selection until we know whether Sam is a girl or a boy, but we have a few choices we’ve narrowed it down to.

A tip… if you have a place to hang up baby clothes it is a good idea because you can easily see what sizes you have- I use the drawers from clothes that will be grown into myself and the closet for clothes he should fit now– or you might have something in a drawer and never see it so you will outgrow it before it gets worn- just some advice someone gave me when i first had Tyler.

    This is Linda9bugspost) again,
this is exactly the same set I bought my DIL and she loves it. The crib is super sturdy and the change table is nice considering the size and when the child gets older…it is a nice dresser.
WAY to pick out the good stuff, TAra.
